Green Bay Packers All-Pro left tackle David Bakhtiari suffered a torn ACL on Dec. 31, 2020, and was limited to just one game and 27 snaps last season due to complications linked with that initial injury. As noted by Nick Shook of the NFL's website and Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk, Bakhtiari has not been a full participant in drills during May's organized team activities as he works to return to his best form.
Head coach Matt LaFleur spoke with reporters Tuesday and assured them Bakhtiari hasn't endured an additional setback.
"Our plan all along was to kind of hold him from this time of the year and make sure he’s continuing to get stronger and ready to go, hopefully, for training camp," LaFleur remarked.
"We just thought that, yeah, this is a guy that’s played a lot of ball and it’s best to hold him from this portion of it," he added during his comments.
Bakhtiari has earned three Pro Bowl and two All-Pro nods while protecting quarterback and reigning Most Valuable Player Aaron Rodgers. His contract was reworked in February to offer the team some salary-cap relief.
This was an easy one for the #Packers and much expected. It will create $9.26M of cap space, putting the #Packers at roughly $29M over the cap. They have cut $23M reworking Clark, Jones and Bakhtiari. More to come. https://t.co/WeedQldXuO
