Packers veteran having a massive impact on young QB Jordan Love

There are three things every young NFL quarterback needs.

  1. The full support of an organization.
  2. A strong defense.
  3. A strong running game.

Jordan Love can say he has all three in his first year as the full-time starter for the Green Bay Packers. The Packers believe in him. They traded away four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers, after all. Green Bay also has what looks to be a pretty solid defense.

Love also has Aaron Jones in the backfield behind him. Not only is Jones Green Bay's most explosive and all-around offensive weapon, but he's also been an incredible support for the young quarterback personally.

In fact, defensive tackle Kenny Clark thinks having a guy like Jones in Love's corner can be a huge reason for the former first-round pick's success.

“Aaron’s the ultimate teammate, the ultimate friend, the ultimate person,” Clark recently said, per ESPN. “He’s just a great dude. Never complains about work. You can tell how much he cares about his teammates, and how he doesn’t want to let his teammates down.

“Jordan having a guy like that you can depend on, that you know is going to be there, it works wonders for you.”

The personal aspect of the relationship is great, but Jones' importance to Love's development in head coach Matt LaFleur's offense can't be understated. Love threw for 245 yards and three touchdowns in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears, with 86 of those yards and a touchdown going to Jones.

On a critical 4th-and-3 that swung the game in Green Bay's favor, the two connected for one of the biggest highlight catch-and-run touchdowns of Week 1. Before that, Jones had taken a screen pass for big yardage, and he had also run a touchdown in as well.

Jones pulled a hamstring during his touchdown catch, so it will be interesting to see how much he plays in Week 2 against the Atlanta Falcons.

If he's good to go, though, you can bet he'll be out there to help his young quarterback continue to get acclimated to life as a starter in the NFL.
