Panthers' Jeremy Chinn fined more than $5K for dunking ball over crossbar
NFL players, apparently, could not care less about the fine that comes along with dunking the ball over the crossbar in celebration of a touchdown.
Carolina Panthers safety Jeremy Chinn is the latest victim of such a fine, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. He was fined $5,606 for dunking the ball over the crossbar after scoring one of his two touchdowns against the Minnesota Vikings last weekend.
Players should be able to show off their personalities after scoring a touchdown, but sometimes the league sees certain celebrations as excessive. In this case, Chinn's celebration was seen as unnecessary.
While he was fined more than $5,000, Cincinnati Bengals rookie wide receiver Tee Higgins was fined $9,291 for the same thing while Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was slapped with a $12,500 fine during a Week 8 win over the New York Jets.
Chinn, who was selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, has appeared in all 11 games for the Panthers this season. The 22-year-old has recorded one interception, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, 49 solo tackles and three quarterback hits.
