Panthers' Matt Rhule 'disappointed' by Teddy Bridgewater criticisms

Veteran quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was traded from the Carolina Panthers to the Denver Broncos in late April and didn't wait long to speak ill of Panthers head coach Matt Rhule and offensive coordinator Joe Brady, who he recently said failed to adequately prepare the Carolina offense last season for situations such as two-minute drives.

Per Steve Reed of the Associated Press, Rhule told reporters during a Wednesday night video call he was "disappointed" by Bridgewater's comments.

"I’m not going to delve into specifics about our process, some of that is specific to us," Rhule said. "But I feel really good about our preparation, and the amount of work our coaches put in and the amount of work our players put in. The amount of practice work, I think we push them in a really smart way."

During an appearance on the "All Things Covered" podcast hosted by Patrick Peterson and Bryant McFadden, Bridgewater criticized the guidance he received during his one and only season with the Panthers.

"I’ll just say this, for Joe Brady’s growth, that organization, they’ll have to practice different things in different ways," he said. "One thing we didn’t do much of when I was there, we didn’t practice two-minute, really. We didn’t practice red zone. . . . You walk through the red zone stuff and then Saturday you come out and practice red zone, but you’d only get like 15 live reps. Guys' reps would be limited."

Carolina traded with the New York Jets for former first-round pick Sam Darnold on April 5. Darnold is expected to start for the Panthers this fall.
