Patrick Mahomes on Kareem Hunt: 'He’s a heck of a football player'

When the Cleveland Browns travel to Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday to take on the Chiefs, it will be Kareem Hunt's first trip back to Kansas City since the team cut him in 2018.

The Chiefs waived Hunt in November 2018 after a video of him kicking a woman surfaced. He later signed with Cleveland and served an eight-game suspension to open up the 2019 campaign.

Hunt said during an Instagram live session that Sunday's game against the Chiefs is "personal."

Meanwhile, Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes said in an interview with KCSP 610 Sports Radio that he and Hunt are still friends.

"That's my dude, man," Mahomes said, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. "I came in with Kareem, and obviously we're not together anymore, but I still stay in touch. He's a heck of a football player, and someone who was one of my best friends when we first got on the team together."

Mahomes even admitted that he tried to get the Chiefs' front office to give Hunt another chance with the franchise before he signed with the Browns.

As a rookie in Kansas City, Hunt led the league with 1,327 yards and eight touchdowns. He also had 455 yards and three receiving touchdowns. Before being cut in 2018, he had 181 carries for 824 yards and seven scores with 26 receptions for 378 yards and seven TDs in 11 games.

In 16 games with the Browns this season, Hunt had 198 carries for 841 yards and six touchdowns with 38 receptions for 304 yards and five scores.

The Browns are considered underdogs this weekend, but Hunt will likely do everything in his power to bring home a win for Cleveland.
