Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is on the precipice of all-time NFL greatness.

He is the latest to weigh in on a debate that has raged in the NBA for several years: Who is basketball’s greatest of all time (GOAT)?

Battle lines were drawn in this conversation long ago. Some believe the answer is Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan. Others think it is Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James.

Who does Mahomes think it is? Well, the answer is complicated.

“If I had to take one for a game or an entire series, I would take Michael Jordan,” Mahomes said. “But for a full entire season, I would go with LeBron because he can do a little bit of everything.”

Make of that what you will.

Obviously, this is one of those debates that is totally subjective. Allen Iverson has one answer. Ray Allen has another. Scottie Pippen has another. Nobody is right or wrong.

As for Mahomes, clearly, he is focused on winning another Super Bowl title. Mahomes isn’t being mentioned in the same breath as either Jordan or James because Tom Brady is clearly the NFL GOAT.

Will Mahomes be able to one day give Brady a run for his money the way James has Jordan? Winning the Super Bowl next weekend would certainly be a good building block.
