Patriots' Mac Jones praises Matt Patricia after latest viral outburst

New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones offered praise for assistant coach and play-caller Matt Patricia following the signal-caller's latest viral outburst. 

"Today, thought we all did a good job trying to play the next play, play the next series and Matt did a great job," Jones told reporters after New England's 27-13 win at the Arizona Cardinals on Monday night, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. "He’s trying to call the game so that we can win. Sometimes, it might be this thing that people don’t know about, like the quick passes for whatever reason and that’s our game plan. We knew what we had to do to win and he called a great game and stayed calm. He’s a calm person, very stoic. We’re just going to continue to grow together and do what we can to win games." 

Jones' words don't eliminate the fact he clearly was upset for at least the second consecutive contest. 

During the Week 13 loss to the Buffalo Bills back on Dec. 1, television cameras seemed to catch Jones yelling that the Patriots had to "throw the f------ ball" because "the quick game sucks." After New England was forced to burn a timeout early in the third quarter of Monday's victory, Jones dropped a loud f-bomb while walking toward the sideline and then appeared to wave off either a play call or something else from Patricia. 

Jones completed 24-of-35 passes for 235 yards with no touchdowns and an interception against Arizona. ESPN stats show the second-year pro is now 25th among eligible quarterbacks with an 85.7 passer rating, 28th with a 33.9 total QBR, and tied for 14th with an average of 7.2 yards per pass attempt this season. In 10 games, Jones has seven touchdown throws and eight interceptions. 

ESPN also points out that the 7-6 Patriots would make the playoffs if the season ended today, as they have tiebreaker advantages over the 7-6 Los Angeles Chargers and 7-6 New York Jets. New England will look to build upon Monday's result when the club plays at the 5-8 Las Vegas Raiders this coming Sunday.
