Pete Carroll gives telling response on coaching future

It doesn't sound like fans should expect to see former longtime Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll back on the sidelines again any time soon.

It was reported earlier this week that Carroll wouldn't be returning as the Seahawks head coach in 2024 and would instead be serving as an advisor to the club. Carroll's 14-year run at the helm included 137 wins, two Super Bowl appearances and one title, coming against the Denver Broncos at the end of the 2013 campaign.

The move was a stunner, as the 72-year-old had said only days earlier that he intended to stay on as Seattle's head coach.

The news on Carroll also came just hours before it was reported that Alabama head-coaching legend Nick Saban was retiring and one day before the news of Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots parting ways was announced.

Belichick had been the longest-tenured NFL head coach, lasting 24 seasons with the Patriots, while Carroll was at the top of that list for NFC teams.

While there are a host of head-coaching positions now available and scores of deserving younger candidates, Carroll certainly isn't your typical septuagenarian. From his lively locker room celebrations to his racing up and down the sidelines during games and his unforgettable gum-chewing, he certainly seems to still have the energy for the job.
