QB Mac Jones compares draft profile to Tom Brady's

Updated betting odds combined with mock drafts suggest that Clemson Tigers superstar Trevor Lawrence, BYU Cougars quarterback Zach Wilson, and Ohio State Buckeyes signal-caller Justin Fields will be the first three picks, in that order, of the NFL Draft that opens April 29.

Mac Jones of the Alabama Crimson Tide isn't done making his case to be among those top three selections.

Per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, Jones spoke with ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit and touched upon the fact that his draft profile somewhat mirrors the one that was attached to seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady back in April 2000. Jones explained:

"I don’t like to compare myself to him, I’ve got a long way to go. But coming out of college it was, doesn’t have arm strength, can’t throw a spiral, can’t move. I can do that stuff, but it’s more like the intangible stuff. ... He’s got the fire still, and that’s why he’s so good."

Nothing outside of the first two picks of the draft is likely set in stone quite yet. Both Ryan Wilson and Josh Edwards of CBS Sports still believe the San Francisco 49ers could select Jones ahead of Fields with the third pick, while Chris Trapasso and Pete Prisco both predict Jones will fall out of the top 10 and to none other than the New England Patriots, Brady's former team.

ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. has the 49ers acquiring Jones over Fields as of his mock draft that he updated on Tuesday. "It's hard to ignore the Jones-to-San Francisco buzz within the league," Kiper wrote. "Every sign two weeks out from the draft points to general manager John Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan being infatuated with Jones. I think he's the quarterback they traded up nine spots to take."
