The New York Giants are kicking off their 2022 regular season this Sunday. Unfortunately for Big Blue, they will have a number of key players missing from their lineup. Defensively, both starting edge rushers Kayvon Thibodeaux and Azeez Ojulari are doubtful to play in Week One. The Giants will need to supplement these losses by kickoff. Elevating Quincy Roche from the practice squad could be an option to add pass-rushing talent ahead of the first game of the season.
Quincy Roche could start for the Giants on Sunday
The New York Giants made the decision to cut edge rusher Quincy Roche from the final 53-man roster at the conclusion of the preseason. Despite not making the initial roster, Roche could find himself activated ahead of the Giants’ Week One matchup with the Tennessee Titans. The Giants are extraordinarily thin at the edge rusher position due to a slew of recent injuries. Quincy Roche’s capable talents and familiarity with the team could make him the next man up.
Quincy Roche spent some time in the Giants’ starting lineup last season. The Giants found themselves in a similar situation to the one they are in right now during the middle of the 2021 season. Starting edge rushers Lorenzo Carter and Oshane Ximines were both injured and absent from the lineup. The Giants relied upon Quincy Roche to fill the mass, and he delivered more often than not.
Quincy Roche appeared in 13 games and made three starts for the New York Giants as a rookie in 2021. He managed to total 38.5 combined tackles, five tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks during this time span. During the 2022 preseason, Roche made some nice plays and at a time seemed worthy of making the final roster. It seems as though the second-year Miami product could be getting a second chance with the New York Giants this weekend.
