Raiders release DE Carl Nassib
The Las Vegas Raiders are releasing defensive end Carl Nassib, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday.
Nassib's release will save the Raiders $8 million against the salary cap and allows him to find a new team even though he has a post-June 1 release date.
The 28-year-old Penn State product joined the Raiders on a three-year, $25 million deal in 2020. Over two seasons with the Silver and Black, he logged 49 tackles, 4.0 sacks and one forced fumble. Prior to his tenure in Vegas, he played two seasons with the Buccaneers and his first two in the league with the Browns.
Nassib gained off-the-field notoriety when he announced he is gay, becoming the first active openly gay player in the NFL. In conjunction with his announcement, Nassib donated $100,000 to the Trevor Project, which provides suicide prevention services for LGBTQ+ youth. The Raiders and the NFL matched Nassib's donation.
