The Las Vegas Raiders made a great choice drafting wide receiver Tre Tucker in the third round of last year's NFL Draft.
Las Vegas signed Tucker to a rookie contract worth $5.3 million, which makes him the fourth highest-paid wide receiver currently on the roster.
Tucker had an incredibly promising first season as the young wideout totaled 331 receiving yards, two receiving touchdowns, and 77 rushing yards in 16 games. His two touchdowns came in the Raiders' historic 63-21 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15. Two weeks later, Tucker earned his lone start of the season in Las Vegas' loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
The 22-year-old wide receiver from Cincinnati is likely to be a key part of the future of the Raiders' wide receiver room. He and veteran wide receiver Jakobi Meyers are the only wide receivers on the roster currently locked in for at least two more seasons.
Tucker has benefitted from learning from one of the most talented receiving rooms in the league, led by one of the NFL's best wideouts, Davante Adams.
One of Tucker's greatest strengths is his speed. He entered the league as one of the fastest wide receivers in the draft, having tied for sixth among wideouts in the 40-yard dash with a time of 4.40. Not only does Tucker have that advantage, but he utilizes it wisely.
"It's the detail," Adams told reporters on Dec. 20, just days after Tucker's Week 15 outing. "Ever since he came, I told y'all he's asking me all type of questions trying to pick my brain about why I run a route a certain way. And ... it's not common that guys even care to -- I don't think it's that fast guys can't do it, I just think that they take the easy way out and know that they're fast and they can get away with taking a super wide release on a go route rather than actually doing a release on a guy and getting miles open."
From February 27 to March 4, 2024, the NFL Scouting Combine will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.
The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
