Rams can't wait forever for OBJ, especially when Jets' Elijah Moore wants trade

The receiver-needy Los Angeles Rams, outmaneuvered by the Niners for Christian McCaffrey, can't wait for Odell Beckham Jr. forever. Could they pry disgruntled, second-year wide receiver Elijah Moore from the Jets?

Per ESPN's Rich Cimini, Moore has requested a trade and won't play in the Jets' game against the Denver Broncos Sunday. 

"To ask him to play a football game with where he is from a mental standpoint wouldn't be fair to him, in my opinion," coach Robert Saleh said. "But that's strictly my decision."

In 2021, Moore performed well in his rookie season, catching 43 passes for 538 yards and five touchdown receptions in 11 games. However, he’s struggled this season, grabbing 16 passes for 203 yards.

Saleh said the Jets don't plan to trade Moore, but the Rams — never shy to make deals — could make them reconsider.

The Rams need the help in the passing game. Wide receiver Cooper Kupp and tight end Tyler Higbee account for more than half of the team's catches and 904 of the team's 1,588 receiving yards.

Allen Robinson II — who signed a three-year, $46.5 million deal in the offseason — has been particularly disappointing. Although he tallied five catches for 63 yards in the Week 6 matchup against the Carolina Panthers, he's still averaging just 28.3 receiving yards per game.

Los Angeles needs a third reliable receiver so quarterback Matthew Stafford doesn't always have to force the ball to the two aforementioned options.

Considering the San Francisco 49ers blockbuster deal for McCaffrey and Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins’ impressive performance in his first game back from suspension, the Rams should make a deal now to improve their team before the rest of the NFC West passes them by.
