Ravens backup QB Trace McSorley out for rest of preseason with back injury

There's a famous saying in sports that one should not lose his job only because of injury.

The Baltimore Ravens may be on the cusp of testing that theory.

According to Jamison Hensley of ESPN, Ravens backup quarterback Trace McSorley will miss the remainder of the preseason with a back injury that he picked up shortly before Baltimore opened the exhibition portion of the calendar against the New Orleans Saints on Saturday.

"He wrenched it in some way," Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh said of McSorley following Monday's practice. "He's going to be out for a few weeks with that situation."

McSorley starred for the Penn State Nittany Lions in college and joined the Ravens as a sixth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. He twice took the field during the 2020 campaign and threw a 70-yard touchdown pass to Marquise Brown in a December loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In total, McSorley has completed three of 10 passes in NFL regular-season action. Baltimore, meanwhile, has 2020 rookie Tyler Huntley now serving as the main backup to starter and one-time NFL Most Valuable Player Lamar Jackson.
