Ravens coach John Harbaugh doesn't blame practice surface for injury crisis

Many have wondered what exactly the Baltimore Ravens have been doing in practices this summer.

Baltimore entered Thursday having already lost running backs J.K. Dobbins and Justice Hill to season-ending injuries. Then fellow ball-carrier and to-be starter Gus Edwards and two-time First-Team All-Pro cornerback Marcus Peters both tore ACLs and were lost for the campaign that begins for the Ravens with Monday's prime-time matchup at the Las Vegas Raiders.

As Jamison Hensley noted for ESPN, Ravens coach John Harbaugh told reporters Friday both Edwards and Peters suffered non-contact injuries, and he specifically called Edwards' setback "kind of a fluke deal."

Harbaugh added he believes the playing surface had nothing to do with any of the issues he's recently encountered.

"The grass? I don't think so," Harbaugh said. "I don't believe so."

2020 undrafted rookie and unproven commodity Ty'Son Williams is Baltimore's RB1 heading into the weekend, but the club also has three-time Pro Bowl selection Le'Veon Bell and two-time Pro Bowler Devonta Freeman on the practice squad. The Ravens also signed former New Orleans Saints running back Latavius Murray to a one-year deal on Friday.

Murray may become Baltimore's starter over Williams once he gets acclimated to his new football home.
