Ravens QB Trace McSorley has sprained knee but no serious injury

Things appeared bleak for Baltimore Ravens backup quarterback Trace McSorley and his teammates with two minutes remaining in Monday's memorable prime-time showdown with the Cleveland Browns.

McSorley went down to what seemed to be a serious knee injury as starting signal-caller and reigning regular-season Most Valuable Player Lamar Jackson was dealing with cramping issues inside the locker room. Jackson returned to the field just as McSorley became a spectator, however, and then connected with wide receiver Marquise Brown for a 44-yard go-ahead touchdown.

Baltimore won after Justin Tucker converted a 55-yard field-goal attempt in the closing seconds.

The Ravens received more good news Tuesday morning, according to Jamison Hensley of ESPN, as the team believes that McSorley is dealing with a sprained knee rather than a season-ending injury. McSorley's status for Sunday's matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars is unknown, and Baltimore could activate undrafted rookie Tyler Huntley from the practice squad to serve as Jackson's backup for at least one week.

McSorley rose to No. 2 on the depth chart when Robert Griffin III went on the injured reserve list because of a hamstring problem he suffered in the 19-14 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Dec. 2. Griffin isn't eligible to suit up until Baltimore's Week 16 game against the New York Giants at the earliest.
