Report: Colin Kaepernick future with Raiders 'not necessarily off the table,' but 'no timetable on a decision'

More than two weeks after his workout with the Las Vegas Raiders, there have been no movements on the Colin Kaepernick front. On Friday morning, CBS Sports' Josina Anderson provided an update.

Soon after Kaepernick's workout with the Raiders, it was reported that it "went well" and that the "door is open". Having signed three-time Pro Bowl signal-caller Derek Carr to a three-year contract extension this offseason, Las Vegas is in no need of a starting quarterback, but they could use a backup with Kaepernick's skill set.

The Raiders saw backup Marcus Mariota -- a mobile threat like Kaepernick -- depart in March to join the Atlanta Falcons. Other quarterbacks currently on the team's depth chart include seldom-used youngsters Nick Mullens and Jarrett Stidham -- who both recently joined the organization -- and rookie Chase Garbers, who signed with the club earlier this month after going undrafted.

The 34-year-old Kaepernick hasn't played in an NFL game since 2016. The former second-round pick took over as the San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback midway through the 2012 campaign and led the team to Super Bowl XLVII, where they fell to the Baltimore Ravens.

After 69 regular season games and six playoff contests over six years, Kaepernick went unsigned through the summer heading into the 2017 campaign among allegations that he was being blackballed due to his on-field political statements, most noticeably kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial inequality. In October 2017, he filed a grievance against the league, accusing league owners of colluding to keep him out of the NFL.
