The Detroit Lions have re-signed running back Mohamed “Mo” Ibrahim to the active roster with injuries decimating their backfield. Ibrahim, an undrafted free agent signee in 2023, will suit up for the Lions practice squad in preparation for Sunday’s matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.

Ibrahim is a candidate to earn a spot on the 53-man roster with the Lions down multiple running backs after Week 6. Lead running back David Montgomery left last Sunday’s contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a rib injury. Head coach Dan Campbell expects Montgomery to be out “a little bit” with the injury. Additionally, rookie running back and first-round pick Jahmyr Gibbs has missed the team’s last two games with a hamstring issue. However, he is trending towards playing in Week 7, per Fantasy Pros.

The Detroit Lions also have running backs Craig Reynolds and Devine Ozigbo on the roster. Reynolds has 89 rushing yards and a touchdown on 24 carries this season, while Ozigbo has three carries for five yards. The latter was reverted back to the practice squad after Sunday’s win.

Mohamed Ibrahim: College Career

Mohamed Ibrahim went undrafted in 2023 despite a decorated college career with the Minnesota Golden Gophers. A four-year starter for the Gophers, Ibrahim totaled 4,668 rushing yards and 53 touchdowns on 5.4 yards per attempt. His best season came as a senior in 2022, rushing for 1,665 yards and 20 touchdowns in 12 games. His best performance came against Iowa in mid-November, rushing for 263 yards and a touchdown on 39 carries.

Minnesota finished the year 9-4, including a win over Syracuse in the Pinstripe Bowl. Ibrahim finished his college career as a two-time All-Big Ten honoree and a winner of the Ameche-Dayne Running Back of the Year in 2020. He also earned third-team All-American honors in 2020.

Detroit Lions: Running Back Room Ahead of Week 7

Mohamed Ibrahim has a good chance of dressing for the Detroit Lions in Week 7. Craig Reynolds is the only active running back on the roster after last Sunday’s game. Fellow rusher Jahmyr Gibbs has a great chance of returning in Week 7, but Detroit will carry at least three running backs into next Sunday.

Devine Ozigbo and Ibrahim should battle for the No. 3 running back position in practice this week. Both are currently on the practice squad for the Detroit Lions.
