Report: Ezekiel Elliott among multiple Cowboys, Texans players to test positive for coronavirus

While many people have tested positive for the coronavirus since the pandemic began, not many NFL players have been reported to have COVID-19. However, that has since changed as of Monday.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that multiple Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans players have tested positive for the coronavirus, and that running back Ezekiel Elliott is among them.

Rapoport states that the players have not been to team facilities due to the pandemic, but the positive tests show how complicated it'll be for NFL teams to ever return to the field this year.

While Elliott is reportedly feeling good, there was no word on whether or not the other players diagnosed with COVID-19 were asymptomatic. Either way, it's not a great sign that players already have the virus when 90 players haven't even begun sharing the same space together for training.

Last week, the NFL reportedly was discussing the possibility of shortening the preseason to just have two games amid the pandemic and players currently are scheduled to report to training camp on July 28.

Other leagues around the country have plans to resume in the coming months as well. The NHL has a 24-team playoff format in place, and players were allowed to begin skating last week. A start date and two hub cities still are up in the air, but it seems hockey could be back as early as August.

The NBA also has plans to resume in August with a 22-team format at Walt Disney World, and Major League Soccer announced it'll be playing a tournament at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney beginning next month.

Major League Baseball, meanwhile, can't seem to come to an agreement with its players' association to begin the 2020 season, so football may be more popular than ever this coming year as a result.
