Report: Falcons won’t pick up TE Hayden Hurst's fifth-year option

The Atlanta Falcons will not pick up Hayden Hurst's fifth-year option, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

The Baltimore Ravens selected Hurst 25th overall in 2018 before trading him to the Falcons last March. He put up career-high numbers in Atlanta last season, catching 56 passes for 571 yards and six touchdowns.

However, the 27-year-old is expendable after the franchise selected Florida Gators standout tight end Kyle Pitts with the fourth overall pick in this year's draft.

Hurst will likely serve as Atlanta's No. 2 tight end in 2021. He has a cap hit of a cap hit of $1,984,914.

If the Falcons picked up his fifth-year option, Hurst would have been paid $5.428 million in 2022. It's unclear which teams might show interest in the veteran tight end when he hits free agency.
