Report: Further testing shows torn ACL for Washington Football Team TE Logan Thomas

In the aftermath of Washington Football Team tight end Logan Thomas' knee injury suffered in Week 13 against the Las Vegas Raiders, it appeared that the sixth-year pro had avoided a torn ACL, but would still miss the rest of the 2021 season. One of those two things proved true, as further testing has reportedly shown that Thomas did indeed tear his left ACL and is out for the remainder of the year.

Per ESPN staff writer John Keim, Thomas is expected to undergo surgery this week and be ready for the start of the 2022 season.

"Before putting him on IR, Washington had debated keeping Thomas on the active 53-man roster in case the team made the playoffs and could use him at some point in the postseason," Keim reported. "Because it was his second stay on IR, it ended his season. At the time, Rivera said they didn't want to rush Thomas back."

Thomas was selected in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals and just finished his second season with Washington. Last year, the 30-year-old was second on the team in receiving yards, finishing behind Terry McLaurin's total of 1,118 with his total of 670.

Thomas was third behind McLaurin and running back J.D. McKissic in 2020 in receptions with 72, tied with McKissic for second place in targets behind McLaurin with 110 and led all Washington players in receiving touchdowns with six. He spent seven weeks on injured reserve in October and November with a hamstring injury before returning to practice just before Thanksgiving.

The tight end finishes his season with 18 receptions for 196 yards and three touchdowns in six games played.
