Washington TE Logan Thomas avoids torn ACL, could still miss rest of season

It was initially feared that Washington Football Team tight end Logan Thomas suffered a torn ACL and MCL on a questionable hit in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 17-15 win over the Las Vegas Raiders:

According to John Keim of ESPN, Washington head coach Ron Rivera told reporters Monday that Thomas does have damage to his knee but no tear to the ACL. Assuming additional tests confirm Thomas isn't dealing with ACL and/or MCL tears, he could potentially return in four to six weeks, per Keim.

Thomas would need surgery for a torn MCL, and that procedure could cost him the rest of his season.

Washington finds itself in a tough spot, however, because Thomas already spent time on injured reserve this fall due to a hamstring issue. A second stint on IR would end his campaign, per NFL rules.

Thomas was hurt Sunday when defensive end Yannick Ngakoue hit him low as he attempted to block for a run up the middle.

"It's an unfortunate play," Rivera said of the incident. "I felt it was something that was avoidable."

In six games this season, Thomas has recorded 18 catches for 196 yards and three touchdowns.

Washington (6-6) faces the first-place Dallas Cowboys (8-4) this coming Sunday.
