Report: Giants QB Daniel Jones has 'structural damage' in injured neck

A report surfaced Wednesday that New York Giants starting quarterback Daniel Jones would miss at least his second consecutive game, Sunday's matchup at the Los Angeles Chargers, because of the strained neck he seemingly suffered in the win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 28.

It appears that issue began even earlier last month.

According to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, Jones initially encountered "some structural damage" in his neck during the Week 11 "Monday Night Football" loss at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers all the way back on Nov. 22.

"Jones had his neck checked out in Los Angeles on Monday, traveling with Ronnie Barnes, the Giants’ senior vice president of medical services, to see neck specialist Dr. Robert Watkins," Schwartz reports. "The concern is that if Jones plays, he could do further damage to the neck."

Giants head coach Joe Judge has said on multiple occasions, most recently on Wednesday, that Jones' setback has not yet ruled him out for the season despite rumors the first-round pick from the 2019 NFL Draft has already played his final snap of the campaign. Schwartz's update suggests Jones isn't anywhere close to facing a live defense as Christmas approaches.

Big Blue currently has 2020 fifth-round draft pick Jake Fromm serving as QB1 during practices with backup Mike Glennon working his way through the NFL's concussion protocol. As of Wednesday, Judge was confident Glennon would be cleared to start by the weekend.
