Report: Jay Gruden lands second interview with Panthers for OC position

Just two days after meeting with the Carolina Panthers about their open offensive coordinator position, Jay Gruden is reportedly getting a second interview.

Gruden began his coaching career in the Arena Football League (AFL), before joining the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneeers as an offensive assistant in 2002, working with his brother, then-head coach Jon Gruden. After seven years with Tampa Bay, Jay Gruden joined the Florida Tuskers' coaching staff in the UFL for two seasons.

He returned to the NFL again in 2011 as the Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator and held the position until 2013. Jon's younger brother secured his first head-coaching gig in 2014 with Washington and stayed with the organization until he was fired after Week 5 during the 2019 season.

During his only tenure as an NFL head coach, Jay Gruden registered a 35-49-1 record in the regular season and a 0-1 mark in the playoffs. The 54-year-old was hired as the offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020, but was fired after just one season along with the rest of the coaching staff.
