Report links Steelers with Mitchell Trubisky, Teddy Bridgewater, Jameis Winston

Last week, Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert told reporters that career backup Mason Rudolph would be Pittsburgh's starting quarterback if the season began this winter but also that he felt "there's good quality available" among signal-callers in this year's draft class as the club moves on from retired future Hall of Famer Ben Roethlisberger.

Per Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network, the Steelers like Liberty Flames product Malik Willis "an awful lot" and want "a mobile quarterback or at least a signal-caller that offers more mobility than Big Ben." Additionally, Pauline linked Pittsburgh with to-be free agents Mitchell Trubisky, Teddy Bridgewater, and Jameis Winston.

A first-round draft pick of the Chicago Bears back in 2017, Trubisky served as QB2 for the Buffalo Bills this past season and has been mentioned as a potential target of the New York Giants due to his relationships with general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll, who both worked for the Bills through the 2021 campaign.

For a piece published earlier this month, ESPN's Jeff Legwold predicted that the Denver Broncos will bring Bridgewater back on a two-year contract assuming they can't acquire either Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson via what would be a blockbuster trade.

Winston, meanwhile, is still recovering from the torn ACL and damage to his MCL he suffered on Halloween. While he was seen running earlier on Monday, it's unclear if he'll be ready to start in Week 1 this coming September.

Interestingly, Pauline notes the Steelers could sign one of the three mentioned veterans and also draft Willis, presumably so he could develop as a rookie watching the 2022 season from the sidelines. As rumors continue to circulate through the football community, it seems Rudolph and 2019 first-round pick Dwayne Haskins aren't guaranteed much as it pertains to their spots on the Pittsburgh roster.
