Matt Miller with ESPN recently gave an important update on the New York Giants plans for the No. 6 pick. It might not appease fans who want the team to move on from Daniel Jones.

Daniel Jones is on notice this offseason

The Giants signed former Denver Broncos quarterback Drew Lock to compete with Jones for the QB1 spot this fall. Lock has $3 million in incentives tied to his time and performance this season. Lock’s signing indicated that the front office is concerned about Jones’s health or his skills on the field.

The New York Giants are likely to skip a QB at No. 6

Top wide receiver prospect Malik Nabers said the Giants need to improve their quarterback room. So it should come as no surprise that the Giants want to add a quarterback in this year’s draft. However, per Matt Miller with ESPN, the Giants are saying they are “unlikely” to take a quarterback in round one:

A high-ranking official with the team told me their draft plans are unlikely to include a first-round passer. However, that doesn’t rule out a quarterback being a target in Round 2, where the team owns pick No. 47. Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. and Oregon’s Bo Nix are expected to be off the board by that point, but a small trade up on Day 2 — similar to what the Titans did last year to land Will Levis at pick No. 33 — is possible.

Can a WR fix the Giants’ passing woes?

Waiting until the second round could be a risk for the Giants. The team hasn’t had good quarterback play since Eli Manning was under center. The Giants appear more interested in landing an elite wide receiver for Jones or the next quarterback to throw to.

But will an elite wide receiver compensate for not having an elite quarterback?
