Report: NFL players won't return to team facilities until training camp

Don't expect NFL players to return to their team facilities anytime soon due to the coronavirus pandemic. Players aren't expected to return to facilities until training camp, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Most teams already have opened their facilities, in a limited capacity, to essential employees and injured players who need treatment.

Discussions are ongoing about when to start training camp amid the pandemic, but there hasn't been word yet on whether or not it'll actually be delayed. However, the preseason will look a little different in 2020. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell sent a memo to organizations Tuesday announcing that teams will not be allowed to hold joint practices during the preseason.

All signs currently are pointing to the NFL season beginning on time following the 2020 schedule release in full with no immediate changes. Things could change, though, as the coronavirus pandemic continues to be a very fluid situation.

While the situation in the United States is very different from that overseas, soccer leagues restarting across Europe will set the steppingstones for professional sports to return in America. Germany's Bundesliga has had a very successful restart, and La Liga, Serie A and the English Premier League are set to return later this month.

The NBA, NHL, MLB and MLS all will hopefully begin before the start of the NFL season and their success, or failure, will help determine whether or not it's safe to begin the football season.
