Report: Packers have 'shown zero interest' in trading Aaron Rodgers
At first glance, it appeared that the Green Bay Packers bringing former assistant Tom Clements out of retirement to serve as their next quarterbacks coach was a sign they believe signal-caller and four-time NFL Most Valuable Player Aaron Rodgers will play another season with the organization because Rodgers and Clements worked alongside each other from 2006 through the 2016 campaign. However, a report published Thursday said Rodgers still has "not informed the Packers about his plans for the 2022 season — whether to return to Green Bay, request a trade or retire."
The latest update on the situation suggests Clements will again be coaching Rodgers later this year.
Insider Jordan Schultz tweeted Friday that "Green Bay has shown zero interest" in discussing any trade scenarios involving Rodgers, largely because "there’s a growing internal belief" the 38-year-old won't be going anywhere:
Rodgers said in late January he would let the Packers know of his intentions before free agency begins when the new league year opens on March 16. He later added he and Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst were "in a really good place" coming off this past season.
Per Pro-Football-Reference, Clements turns 69 years old this coming June and retired following the 2020 season. Logic suggests he wouldn't have agreed to rejoin the Packers at this point of his life and career without having some idea about what Rodgers is thinking regarding his immediate future.
