Packers optimistic about Aaron Rodgers returning to team?

The relationship between Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers seems to be in a much better place. Things are going well enough that the Packers reportedly are optimistic about his possible return to the team.

Rodgers is under contract to take home $27.49 million in 2022, though he will count for $46.66 million against the cap. The Packers struck a deal with him prior to last season. They agreed that they would void the 2023 year on his contract and that they would work to find a trade partner for him if he wanted out.

It now seems like he may be inclined to stay.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday that there is “optimism” and “hope” that Rodgers will return to the Packers.

“The relationship is in as good a spot as it has been in quite a long time, leading to optimism and hope from many involved that he will choose to return,” Rapoport wrote.

Rapoport further says the Packers are willing to make Rodgers the highest-paid quarterback on a per-season basis. Though Green Bay is well over the salary cap for 2022, they reportedly are prepared to go “all in” now and pay the price later on.

That plan is probably exactly what Rodgers was hoping to hear. He wants the team to make every effort to win now while they have him still playing at an MVP level. The Packers probably also realize that they won’t be close to contending to a championship without Rodgers, so they need to do whatever they can to please him.

Keep in mind that Rodgers gave a good sign about his potential future with Green Bay.
