Green Bay Packers running back AJ Dillon. Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

Heading into Week 5, a recent report is that the Green Bay Packers are open to trading running back AJ Dillon.

With the Green Bay Packers sitting at 2-2 this season after a tough loss to the Detroit Lions, the franchise appears to be open to moving running back A.J. Dillon. It has not been an easy start to the season for Dillon, who saw his workload go up a bit with an injury to Aaron Jones earlier this season.

Unfortunately for the Packers and Dillon, he has not performed in the expanded role. So far this season, Dillon has totaled just 118 rushing yards on 44 carries, which is a poor 2.7 yards per carry average.

Recently a former NFL Executive let us know here at the NFL Analysis Network that Dillon could be moved.

“The Packers are looking to make a move at running back if one becomes available. AJ Dillon has become available in trade discussions. Yet another back who could be moved for the right price.”

With the Packers performing well, it doesn’t appear like they are looking to be sellers but rather looking to improve at the position. For Dillon, he has been a bit of a disappointment as a second-round pick and the time might be here to move on.

After this season, Dillon is slated to become a free agent, and the Packers might not have any plans for him in the future with Jones still producing well for them at running back.

The Packers have certainly used both AJ Dillon and Jones a lot over the past few seasons, as Jones is heavily involved in the passing attack. It seems like the Packers might have their eyes on another running back or two, and one has to wonder if they are keeping tabs on Jonathan Taylor’s situation in Indianapolis.

The NFL Trade Deadline is on Oct. 31, so we have some time still. The Packers will likely continue to evaluate where they are in the standings and make a decision on what way they go.
