The team in Canada’s capital is adding some depth as one of their players is going to be out for the foreseeable future.

According to a report from Matt Porter of the Boston Globe, PWHL Ottawa is signing forward Sammy Davis to a Standard Player Agreement for the rest of the regular season.

It comes after Kristin Della Rovere was held out of the lineup for this past Saturday’s game against Montreal due to an undisclosed injury. According to the report, Della Rovere’s injury is severe enough that she is expected to be out long-term.

The former Harvard captain has played in nine games this season, scoring one goal in Ottawa’s 3-2 loss to Boston on Jan. 29. Della Rovere was drafted by Ottawa in the 10th round of the inaugural PWHL Draft back in September. The Caledon East, Ontario native came into the league after a five-year career with the Crimson.

Davis was acquired from Boston’s reserve list. Per the league’s CBA, teams are allowed to sign reserve players from other teams.

The Pembroke native never had a chance to play for her hometown team. She was signed on as a reserve after spending the last three seasons with the Boston Pride of the defunct Premier Hockey Federation, helping the team to back-to-back Isobel Cups.

Before turning pro, Davis was a captain at Boston University. She got onto the Terriers radar after a stellar high school career, winning gold with Team USA at the 2015 IIHF Women’s Under-18 World Championships.

Ottawa (3-0-4-5) is set to host New York on Wednesday night. They are currently at the bottom of the league standings, five points out of a playoff spot.
