Report: Raiders hiring former Jaguars DBs coach Chris Ash for same position

The Las Vegas Raiders have been one of the busier teams in the NFL in the field of hiring coaches so far in February, already bringing in new head coach Josh McDaniels, as well as a new defensive coordinator in Patrick Graham. Now, the team appears to have made another move.

Ash's one-year gig with Jacksonville was his first NFL job, but the 48-year-old has extensive experience in the college game as well. Ash began his coaching career in 1997 at his alma, Drake University, as a graduate assistant, before moving to the defensive coordinator position for the 1998 and 1999 campaigns.

He then spent seven years with Iowa State from 2000 to 2006, first serving as a graduate assistant, before becoming their defensive coordinator. Ash was the defensive backs coach and recruiting coordinator for San Diego St. in 2007 and 2008, before returning to Iowa State and keeping the same role for the 2009 season.

From 2010 to 2015, Ash was with Wisconsin, Arkansas and then Ohio State, holding a coaching gig on the defensive of the ball at each stop. Ash earned his first and only head-coaching job in 2016 and stayed at the helm for Rutgers until midway through the 2019 season, posting a 8-32 record.

After being fired by Rutgers, Ash spent the rest of the 2019 campaign as a defensive analyst with Texas. Ash was the Longhorns' defensive coordinator in 2020 before landing the same role with the Jaguars in 2021.
