Report: Ravens, Lamar Jackson have not started negotiating new contract

A report over the weekend indicated that Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens are "far apart" in their negotiations on a new contract for the former MVP.

According to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, the two sides are "far apart" because negotiations haven't even started yet. It's unclear if Jackson will represent himself or sign with an agent.

Jackson is reportedly expected to receive a massive extension this offseason following the deals Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes signed.

It's not surprising that Jackson is due for a raise. The 24-year-old is 30-7 as a starter for the Ravens and has thrown for over 7,000 yards with 68 touchdowns in three seasons. He also became the first quarterback to record multiple 1,000-plus-yard rushing seasons and got his first playoff win in 2020.

It's unclear what sort of deal Jackson will land. Mahomes is the NFL's highest-paid quarterback at $45 million per season, while Watson makes $39 million per year.
