John Wolford? He's the latest quarterback to be connected to the Minnesota Vikings in the wake of Kirk Cousins's season-ending Achilles injury, but it looks like Wolford will be staying with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Rams and Vikings expressed interested in Wolford. The Rams were reportedly ready to sign Wolford off Tampa Bay's practice squad, but the Bucs essentially blocked that move by signing him to the active roster.

The 28-year-old is in his first season in Tampa after spending 2020-22 with the Rams. He played in seven games with Los Angeles and completed 58.7% of his passes for 626 yards, 1 touchdown and 5 interceptions.

What can we glean from the Vikings being linked to Wolford? It's hard to say for sure, but it does jive well with the reports that say the Vikings are unlikely to make a splash move, instead looking to add depth to join Jaren Hall, Nick Mullens and Sean Mannion in the current quarterback room.

We can go one step further and assume that Minnesota would've been interested in signing Wolford off the practice squad rather than trading for him, which might indicate that the Vikings aren't interested in giving up draft capital for a QB.

Hall appears in line to start Sunday in Atlanta while Mullens is on injured reserve for at least one more game. Mannion has been on the practice squad and would need to be added to the 53-man roster to be eligible to play Sunday against the Falcons.
