Rex Ryan destroys Amari Cooper, Cowboys over new contract

Amari Cooper will reportedly sign a five-year, $100 million deal with the Dallas Cowboys with $60 million guaranteed, according to ESPN's Josina Anderson.

The wide receiver was due for a raise, but former New York Jets and Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan doesn't think so.

"I wouldn't have paid this guy," Ryan said Friday morning on ESPN's "Get Up." "To me, this is the biggest disappearing act in the National Football League. He doesn't show up on the road. He doesn't show up when the competition's good. When he's against the top corners that guy disappears."

Are Ryan's comments warranted, though? Cooper has four 1,000-plus yard season in his six-year NFL career and is coming off his best season in 2019 with 1,189 yards and eight touchdowns.

However, in some of the biggest games for the Cowboys in 2019, Cooper didn't perform to the level he can. In Week 11 against the New England Patriots, Cooper was targeted twice and had zero receptions and no yards. During Week 4 against the New Orleans Saints, the 25-year-old had just five receptions for 48 yards in the loss.

So, while Cooper isn't a total bust, he certainly may "disappear" like Ryan says above. He'll have to make a huge impact on the Cowboys roster in 2020 in order to live up to that $100 million deal.
