The NFL is a pressure cooker, but there may be one player under more pressure than anyone else. At least that’s what Robert Griffin III thinks.

RG3, who is an ESPN analyst, said on “NFL Live” last week that Baker Mayfield is under more pressure than any other player.

“I think Baker is under the most pressure than any other player in the league,” Griffin said. “Baker needs to run the table and win the Super Bowl. Anything short of that, he’s not going to get the public to buy in on him, and he’s not going to get the front office to buy in on him past 2022.”

Grifin also believes that being under pressure is a good thing for Mayfield, because he tends to perform well when he is doubted.

Mayfield is under contract with the Cleveland Browns for $18.85 million in 2022. The team exercised their fifth-year option on Mayfield in April 2021, meaning this is his final season under contract with the team.

Both he and the team were waiting to see how things went before working on a contract extension. But the 2021 season did not go well. Mayfield dealt with a shoulder injury that hampered his ability to play well, and Cleveland went 8-9 and missed the playoffs.

All parties are likely hoping that Mayfield returns to the form he showed in 2020 when the team went 11-5 and beat the Steelers in the playoffs.

Recent reports have indicated that Mayfield may be facing an uncertain future in Cleveland.
