Robert Griffin III floats Falcons TE as Cowboys trade target

ESPN's Robert Griffin III suggested Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts as a potential trade target for the Dallas Cowboys during Tuesday's episode of "Get Up."

RGIII said that, in addition to the Cowboys missing running back Ezekiel Elliott, the team needed a guy like Pitts to help with their early-season offensive struggles in the red zone.

"What they are missing is a tight end in the red zone," Griffin III said. "They need that body presence to give them that mismatch."

Dallas's red zone issues were most apparent in their stunning Week 3 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, when they scored just one touchdown in five red zone possessions.

The Cowboys had Dalton Schultz leading their tight end room for much of the last five seasons, compiling 211 catches for 2,122 yards and 17 touchdowns over 75 regular season games. Schultz signed with the Houston Texans in March.

Pitts was selected fourth overall by the Falcons in 2021 and made the Pro Bowl as a rookie with 68 receptions and 1,026 yards but just one touchdown across 17 contests. He missed seven contests last season due to injury and recorded just 28 catches for 356 yards and two touchdowns.

With the Atlanta offense yet again operating mainly through their rushing attack, Pitts has only nine receptions for 100 yards on 17 targets with no touchdowns through three games this season.

The Cowboys' new starting tight end (second-year pro Jake Ferguson) ranks second on the team in targets (18) and third in receptions (10) and receiving yards (70), while bringing in one touchdown.
