Russell Wilson reestablishing himself as franchise QB with fourth-quarter heroics

The resurgence of Russell Wilson continued after the Denver Broncos quarterback led another fourth-quarter comeback on Sunday.

In a 21-20 victory against the Minnesota Vikings, Wilson threw a 15-yard TD pass to wide receiver Courtland Sutton, giving the Broncos the lead with 63 seconds left. Per The Athletic, it was his 31st fourth-quarter comeback, tying Hall of Famer and former Broncos star John Elway for the ninth most since 1950.

"He might be the greatest two-minute quarterback in the history of the NFL," Broncos right tackle Mike McGlinchey said postgame, via The Denver Post's Parker Gabriel. "When the game's on the line, he's at his best and his calmest. The ability to see clearly when [stuff's] hitting the fan... he played great."

This season, the 12-year veteran leads the league in fourth-quarter comebacks (four). The former Pro Bowler thriving in clutch situations shows he's reestablishing himself as a franchise QB. Also, he's played well throughout the season, completing 69 percent of his passes for 2,065 yards, 19 TDs, four interceptions and an above-average 104.3 passer rating.

"Wilson has had his share of critics. They're a lot quieter over the past few games," wrote Yahoo Sports' Frank Schwab.

After four straight wins, Denver (5-5) is back in the playoff hunt. If it wins its next two games, The New York Times Simulator notes the team's postseason chances increase from 21 percent to 34 percent. Wilson believes the team can make an improbable run.

"I think more than anything else we haven't done anything yet," he told NBC Sports after the win. "We got a lot more to do. We're going in the right direction, though, that's the exciting part."
