Russell Wilson reveals massive goal despite questions about his future
Quarterback Russell Wilson still believes he can win more Super Bowls, whether it's with the Denver Broncos or another team.
"I've got more fire now than ever," Wilson told former Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall on the "I Am Athlete" podcast. "For me, it's about winning. Over the next five years, I wanna win two [Super Bowls]. I wanna feel the chill of that trophy again."
The Seattle Seahawks traded the Super Bowl champion in 2022, where his career has hit a rough patch. In two seasons as the Broncos starting QB, he's 11-19 and has recorded a below-average 44.7 QBR.
In 2023, Denver head coach Sean Payton benched him for the final two games of the season in favor of backup Jarrett Stidham, who went 1-1. The former Pro Bowler is reportedly accepting offers on his $25M mansion in the Denver metro area, signaling the franchise will probably move on from him this offseason.
"I love the city and everything else," Wilson said of his future with the Broncos. "But you want to be somewhere where they want you, too."
Wilson is in the second year of a five-year, $242.5M contract with $161M guaranteed and a no-trade clause. The Broncos will probably release him in March and incur $85M in dead money.
According to DraftKings, the Pittsburgh Steelers (+100) have the best odds to land Wilson this offseason. This would be a solid destination. Steelers WR George Pickens had 1,140 receiving yards in 17 games last season and could reach the next level with a decent veteran.
Still, it's fair to doubt the 35-year-old will win a Super Bowl again, as he's nearing the end of his career.
