Sammy Watkins: Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson view themselves as rivals

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson recently said Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs isn't about himself and Patrick Mahomes. Sammy Watkins begs to differ.

Watkins, who signed with the Ravens this year after spending three years with Mahomes in Kansas City, said Thursday that the two quarterbacks definitely consider themselves rivals.

"I think those guys definitely view it that way," Watkins said, according to Pro Football Talk. "You can say you're not, but the world is watching two of the best, youngest MVPs in the league and very talented guys. I'm definitely looking at it that way like, man, Lamar needs to win. He's been doing a great job in this league with how he's carrying himself as a teammate and as a guy that does the right things off the field. I just think it's time for him to take that next hump and try to get a win, and I hope this team, we prepare and the coaches prepare to do our best to will a win for the organization and him."

Mahomes and Jackson have met three times, and the Chiefs have won every game. Right now, it doesn't seem like much of a rivalry. However, Jackson has the opportunity to shake things up with a big win this weekend.

The Ravens enter Week 2 looking for their first win of the season after a 33-27 overtime loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night. Jackson fumbled twice in that game. He'll have to be much better against the Chiefs if Baltimore has any hope of winning its first game of the season.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs won their first game of the season with a 33-29 come-from-behind victory over the Cleveland Browns. Mahomes had 355 total yards and four total touchdowns in the win.

Sunday's matchup between the Chiefs and Ravens should be intriguing, though Kansas City is favored to win, according to DraftKings Sportsbook.
