Seahawks and Bobby Wagner have discussed potential reunion

Eight-time Pro Bowl linebacker Bobby Wagner could be on his way back to the Emerald City.

Nearly two weeks after the Los Angeles Rams released Wagner to clear cap space, Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider revealed that he and head coach Pete Carroll spoke with the team's former linebacking star recently.

"We had a great, awesome, frank conversation, so he knows where we are, and we know where he's at," Schneider explained on Seatle Sports' 'Wyman and Bob Show.' "We have so much respect for him personally and professionally, so we were able to talk through some things, and yeah, we know where it's going."

A deal between the two sides doesn't sound imminent, but there seems to be mutual interest in a reunion, as Schneider confirmed that the team plans to stay in touch with Wagner during free agency.

Selected in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft, Wagner spent the first 10 seasons of his career in Seattle before a falling out with the team following the 2021 campaign, leading the six-time All-Pro to ink a five-year, $50 million deal with the Rams in free agency.

Wagner criticized the Seahawks for how the team handled his departure an offseason ago, but it appears the two sides have mended fences, opening the door for a possible Wagner return to the Pacific Northwest.

Wagner played all 17 games for the Rams last season, recording 81 tackles, six sacks, and two interceptions. In cost-cutting mode, Los Angeles released Wagner on February 24.

Because he was released by the Rams, the 32-year-old Wagner is currently free to sign with any team at any time and does not have to wait until the start of free agency on March 15.
