Seahawks' Russell Wilson files trademark for 'Let Russ Cook'
You can add Russell Wilson to the list of elite quarterbacks who have filed a trademark this season. Tampa Bay Buccaneers signal-caller Tom Brady filed a "TB x TB" trademark after joining the team in March and also has filed trademarks for "Tompa Bay" and "Tampa Brady."
According to Josh Gerben of Gerben Law Firm, Wilson filed a "Let Russ Cook" trademark, indicating that he plans to use the words with cooking utensils, cookware and cooking attire such as chefs hats and aprons.
Wilson's agent, Mark Rodgers, told ESPN that all proceeds from the trademark will be donated to the quarterback's Why Not You Foundation, which is "dedicated to creating real and lasting change in the world by motivating, empowering and preparing today’s youth to be tomorrow’s leaders," per the foundation's website.
"Let Russ Cook" became a vociferation among Seahawks fans for the team to decrease its reliance on the running game under head coach Pete Carroll and lean more on Wilson. The Seahawks have done just that this season, and it's paid off.
Seattle owns the NFL's fourth-highest dropback percentage, according to ESPN, after ranking last in 2018 and 2019. Wilson currently has a league-high 26 touchdown passes, which is one short of Brady's record from 2007 for most TDs through seven games in NFL history. The 31-year-old also has completed 71.5% of his passes for 2,151 yards.
