Seahawks secondary to be undermanned Week 1 vs. Rams

If the Seattle Seahawks defense ends up facing Super Bowl LVI MVP wide receiver Cooper Kupp in Week 1, they'll be covering him with an undermanned secondary.

Fortunately for the Seahawks, while their season-opener at home against the Rams is still 10 days away, Kupp's status seems questionable at best. Outside of the 2021 AP Offensive Player of the Year, the Los Angeles offense isn't very intimidating on paper.

The Rams' other two projected starting wideouts are Van Jefferson and Tutu Atwell, who combined for 42 receptions during the 2022 season.

Seattle will need Jamal Adams and Devon Witherspoon to get healthy soon, however, as the high-powered Detroit Lions offense is on the docket for Week 2 (in Detroit).

Adams has notably been activated off of the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, so is eligible to come back before Week 4. Head coach Pete Carroll told 93.3 KJR on Friday morning that the three-time Pro Bowl safety could miss a "couple of games" though.

Adams suffered a season-ending torn quadriceps in Week 1 of the 2022 campaign against the Denver Broncos and is still working his way back from the problem.

The Seahawks selected Witherspoon with the fifth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

If Witherspoon joins Adams on the sidelines next Sunday afternoon, Seattle could start Michael Jackson in place of the former at left cornerback and Julian Love at strong safety.
