Seahawks star safety set for season debut Week 4 vs. Giants

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Monday that safety Jamal Adams is ready for his season debut in Week 4 against the New York Giants.

The former LSU Tiger went down with a season-ending torn quadriceps in Week 1 of the 2022 campaign against the Denver Broncos. Adams was activated off of the physically unable to perform (PUP) list late in the summer, so was eligible to return any time before Week 4.

The 27-year-old will get one extra day of preparation before his comeback, as Seattle will take on New York on the road at 8:15 p.m. ET on "Monday Night Football."

Following three seasons (including two Pro Bowls and one first-team All-Pro honor) with the New York Jets to begin his career, Adams was traded to the Seahawks in July 2020. The former sixth overall pick was limited to 12 games in both of his first two campaigns in Seattle, before playing only one contest last year.

Even with the missed time, Adams has shown how dominant he can be. He set the single-season sack record for a defensive back (9.5) during his first year with the NFC West club and added a pair of interceptions in 2021.

Carroll described just how eager Adams was to return to the field.

"He is so ready," the 72-year-old coach said, per a report by Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic. "As jacked up, as excited a player as he is, we’ve just got to keep him calmed down. I’ve already started talking to him about that so that he doesn’t lose his brains because he’s so fired up to play."
