Sean McVay is a week removed from leading the Los Angeles Rams to the Super Bowl, which has him on track to potentially be a Hall of Fame coach. But there is one temptation that could derail that path.

All through the week leading up to the Super Bowl and afterwards, there was talk that not only could McVay potentially leave for a TV job, but that he might be tempted to retire at some point. The rumors were started with some reports talking about him and possible TV jobs. McVay was even asked a question Super Bowl week and acknowledged he would like to be able to dedicate time to his family when the time comes.

In accordance with this line of thinking, Peter King wrote about why a TV analyst job might be tempting to McVay. King speculated that McVay could make more than $15 million per year as a game analyst like Tony Romo. A source told King that McVay would make even more than $15 million per year in such a role.

The Rams likely recognize that McVay is due a big raise. The 36-year-old coach has taken the Rams to the Super Bowl in two of his five seasons, winning one. Prior to him taking over in 2017, they hadn’t had a winning season since 2003.

There is no understating the job McVay has done to turn around the franchise. His fiancee says he is not retiring or going anywhere. But the Rams no doubt have kept it in the back of their mind that a time might come when McVay decides he wants to step away from coaching. It might be after nearly a decade on the job like Sean Payton, or it could come sooner.
