Sean McVay's future with Rams in 'limbo'

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, there is doubt regarding Sean McVay's future with the Los Angeles Rams

Per Schefter, McVay has "gone back and forth" over the decision to return to the Rams in 2023 or call it an early retirement.

Schefter notes that the Rams' injury-riddled 2022 has "taken its toll" on McVay, and he needs time to determine whether or not he has the drive to continue coaching. The source added that McVay needs "time to get away to process all that has transpired over the past year."

Rumors that McVay may walk away should come as no surprise. Earlier this week, a report suggested that McVay was contacted by NFL television partners, gauging his interest in jumping from the sidelines to the broadcast booth. McVay dismissed the whispers on Thursday, calling them "flattering" before insisting he was committed to the Rams.

There has been speculation in the past regarding McVay's future as the Rams' head coach. Before winning Super Bowl LVI, McVay told reporters that he wasn't interested in a long coaching career and wanted to start a family, leading many to believe he could leave after the season. Following the Rams' Super Bowl victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, McVay was noncommital about returning to coach the team in 2022, saying, "We'll see."

In September, McVay signed a contract extension with the Rams, which runs through 2026.
