The Seattle Seahawks picked up former Cowboys second-rounder Kelvin Joseph ahead of their Week 12 matchup against Dallas on Thursday Night Football. Joseph inked to the practice squad on Sunday after spending the first few months of the season with the Miami Dolphins.
The Cowboys traded the cornerback away to the Dolphins at the end of August when the 53-man roster deadline came. They swapped him in exchange for cornerback Noah Igbinoghene. Igbinoghene was a first-round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft while Joseph was taken in the second round the following year.
Joseph totaled 36 tackles and four passes defended during his three seasons in Dallas. With Miami, he had two tackles in four games played this year. The Dolphins released him on Nov. 14.
The former Cowboy was originally going to play his former team with Miami when the two teams meet on Christmas Eve. Now they’ll have their reunion this week on Thursday Night Football – if Joseph travels with the Seahawks to AT&T Stadium.
Joseph played college football at LSU and Kentucky, though didn’t see a ton of action for either team. He appeared six games for the Tigers in 2018 and played in nine contests for the Wildcats during the pandemic-altered 2020 campaign.
Over two years in the SEC, Joseph was responsible for 37 tackles and four interceptions. All four of his picks came while at Kentucky.
Last year, he appeared in 16 of Dallas’ 17 contests, making one start. He recorded 20 tackles, two passes defended and a forced fumble.
Cowboys to host LB Shaq Leonard
The Dallas Cowboys will reportedly host free agent linebacker Shaquille Leonard this week following his release from the Indianapolis Colts, according to Dallas Morning News‘ Calvin Watkins. Team owner Jerry Jones indicated last week that there was interest in Leonard, and head coach Mike McCarthy concurred on Sunday, but the news of a visit is a more solid development.
“I don’t have anything to report on Shaq, but yes, definitely, there’s interest,” McCarthy said on Sunday.
Leonard was released by the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday in the midst of his sixth season with the team, now leaving room for the decorated linebacker to potentially have a major impact on whichever team he joins.
Jones is keeping his cards close regarding potentially signing Leonard saying, “I don’t want to imply one way or the other with Leonard.” But there’s no question that having him play beside another former NFL All-Pro like Micah Parsons and the new single-season record holder for interceptions returned for touchdowns in DaRon Bland would take Dallas’ already elite defense to another level.
