Should Packers consider signing JC Tretter?

JC Tretter originally broke into the NFL in 2013 with the Green Bay Packers after being selected the fourth round of the draft. He would play with the team for three seasons before signing with the Cleveland Browns.

The Browns surprisingly released the starting center earlier this offseason after five seasons. With Green Bay moving on from a couple of offensive lineman and with two-time All-Pro LT David Bakhtiari and former Pro Bowl G Elgton Jenkins trying to return from ACL injuries, could a reunion be in store for the 31-year-old and the Packers?

The Packers lost versatile offensive lineman Lucas Patrick to the Chicago Bears in free agency. They also cut ties with an eight-year veteran in tackle Billy Turner. Bakhtiari is two seasons removed from an ACL tear that is still giving him some trouble and Jenkins won't be ready until at least mid-season after tearing his own ACL last November. Even second-year center Josh Myers is coming off of a season in which he missed time with a knee injury.

The team added three rookies in the draft so it's going to be an interesting year along the trenches.

A veteran like Tretter, who has experience playing in Green Bay and snapping to QB Aaron Rodgers, could be an appetizing option for the Packers. Tretter is coming off of five consecutive seasons of playing 16 games, starting all 80 of the games that he played in Cleveland. His experience and versatility at the very least could be a huge asset for a generally young offensive line. He can play every position along the front. With close to $17M in cap space, the team definitely has enough room to sign the current NFLPA President to at least a one-year deal.
