After ending the season with multiple free agents across their offensive line and a new offensive line coach, the Las Vegas Raiders decided to bring back Andre James, their starting center of the last few seasons.

While resigning James won't make major headlines around the league, the Raiders' decision to bring back the veteran center was one of the best moves they could have made this offseason for many reasons, mainly continuity.

The Raiders initially faced the possibility of starting next season with a new offensive line coach, a new offensive coordinator, and three new starting offensive linemen. That would have been a difficult situation for any offense in the league and a problem that wasn't ideal for an offense that struggled all of this season after bringing back four of their starting offensive linemen from the season prior.

Since becoming the starting center, James has been a solid piece of the Raiders' offense. He has the skills and experience to anchor an offensive line needing stability. More importantly, he'll have the ability to either continue the development of quarterback Aidan O'Connell or the glue to hold the offensive line together with a new quarterback under center.

Value is relative, and James' value for the Raiders' offense is much more than what shows on a stat sheet. The Raiders entered the offseason with new faces across their coaching staff, especially on offense. They will have difficulty finding continuity elsewhere on their offense or team.

However, signing James ensures they give themselves the best chance at maximum continuity possible. It may not be an eye-popping move, but it could turn out to be the best decision the Raiders make this offseason. Should the Raiders make a playoff run, James's signing will undoubtedly be one of the reasons why.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
