Son of Eagles legend signs with Rams

At 6-foot-2 and 300 pounds, Ohio State's Taron Vincent is much bigger than his famous father, but he's facing a more difficult path to the NFL.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter , defensive lineman Taron Vincent, son of former NFL great Troy Vincent, has signed with the Los Angeles Rams.

Vincent joined Ohio State as a five-star recruit in 2018 but didn't become a full-time starter until last year. Injuries dogged him his entire Buckeye career and a torn labrum forced him to miss the entire 2019 season. With just 60 career tackles and 2.5 sacks, Vincent wasn’t on many teams’ radar and went undrafted.

After a brief appearance at the Bills’ minicamp, Vincent signed with the Rams, who could be looking at pedigree over past performance.

Vincent’s father, Troy was drafted by the Dolphins with the seventh-overall pick in 1992 but played eight years at cornerback with the Philadelphia Eagles, making five consecutive Pro Bowls. He’s a member of the Eagles Hall of Fame as well as their 75th Anniversary team.

Troy Vincent served as president of the NFL Players Association from 2004-08 and was vice president of the NFL Player Engagement Organization in 2011. Today he is the NFL's Executive Vice President of Football Operations, a position he’s held since 2014.

Taron Vincent may have 100 pounds on his father, but he obviously has some big shoes to fill. Being added to the Rams’ 90-man roster is a good start.

With Greg Gaines and A’Shawn Robinson leaving in free agency, the Rams need help on their defensive line. The team added two edge rushers in the draft, but only one defensive tackle, Wake Forest’s Kobe Turner.

The Rams’ mandatory minicamp is less than a month away and voluntary OTAs start next. If Vincent is anything like his father, expect him to do whatever it takes to make the 53-man roster.
